Ripple nodded reluctantly. "I suppose I did say that...but...ugh, I didn't want to meet new people this way. I wanted to make a good first impression!"
Marth smiled secretly enjoying the DESPAIR everyone was feeling and introduced himself to Jean. "Hello, I'm Marth Altea, a junior this year. It's nice to meet you."

"Oh, hi!" Jean replied. "I'm Jean and this is Ike" she said gesturing to Ike. "We're both going to be seniors this year. Hooray for us."
Ike sat there quietly, he wasn't much into talking to people anyway, and honestly, he didn't know why he even talked to Marth in the first place...

Marth nodded. "Sounds like you guys have this place figured out, then?"
Ripple fidgeted awkwardly in her seat and tapped her fingers on the tabletop.

"Yeah, I guess. I mean, it's still a bit enigmatic, but for the most part, I'd like to believe that I can get around the schoo... er ... academy without getting lost," Jean said. "Uhh, so where are you from? I mean, I've never seen you around before, so I suppose that you are from somewhere...."
Ike still felt not very inclined to speak, so he continued eating, because it seemed as though lunch would end soon.

"I am from somewhere, actually," Marth grinned. "If you'd like to know the specifics, I suppose I'll just say I'm from the land of the rising sun."
Ripple's eyes widened to the size of Ike's food tray. "Y-y-y-ou're from...J-J-Japan?" Ripple stuttered.
Marth nodded confirmation. "Indeed, I was raised there until....stuff happened. Yep. That's all." He laughed nervously to indicate he didn't want to talk about it anymore.

"Well, looks to me like Ripple found a new friend, I know how much she likes people...from Japan," Jean said. "I guess you could say this changes everything."
"Why does she like people specifically from Japan?" Ike asked.
"Probably because it's a beautiful, magnificent place, and she thinks the people are equally so, I suppose." Jean answered, mostly just making an educated guess, which she isn't very good at. Jean checked the time. "Wow, time sure flies when you're having strange conversations with people," she observed.
Ike nodded his head in affirmation. "We should probably be wrapping things up around here, I mean, wouldn't want to risk the wrath of Mr. Stubbs." He and Jean looked at each other, obviously knowing something that Ripple and Marth didn't.

Ripple sighed loudly. "I like people that can speak JAPANESE," Ripple clarified. "It's just a bonus if they're from Japan, because generally speaking, they know much more about the culture than if they were raised in a dumb place like America."
"What made you interested in Japan?" Marth asked, genuinely curious.

"Oh, so that's why you're my friend, thank you for clarifying that,Ripple," Jean smiled so Ripple got the point that she didn't really mean it. "Anyway.....uh.... Ike and I better get going, the bell is about to ring after all." Jean looked at Ripple sadly.
"Yeah, well, uh, it was nice to meet you both, Ripple and Marth," Ike said. "I guess we'll see you around."
With that Jean and Ike left Ripple alone with Marth.

Ripple glared at her Senpai as she abandoned her to deal with this situation on her own. Turning back to face Marth, she simply shrugged. In reality, she didn't want to admit why she became interested in Japan. "Uh, well...you see...Have you heard of vocaloid?"
Marth nodded. "Hatsune Miku is everywhere in Japan. You really can't escape it whether you want it to or not."
Ripple smiled with amusement. "Sounds ideal, actually. Vocaloid is essentially unknown around here.... Well, in any case, my friend introduced me to vocaloid and when I heard the Japanese language...I just fell in love with it..." Ripple blushed and looked away. 'Fell in love' had extremely sappy connotations that did not suit her.

Meanwhile, Jean and Ike walked down the halls together.
"So, what do you think of my friend, Ripple?" Jean asked.
"Uh, she seems..... nice... mostly," Ike answered.
Jean could understand what he was getting at. Ripple did refer to him as 'Stupidity' earlier. That could not have been a good first impression for either of them. She hoped that something like that wouldn't happen between her two friends again. She thought about how Marth and Ripple were interacting now that two factors of awkward just left the picture.
Ike was happy to be out of that situation. He liked being around Jean, but the conversation between all of them was getting really strange. "I hope that Ripple's day gets better though. She seems like she could be great company, if she's feeling well enough..."
Jean smiled at Ike. "Oh, don't worry, she isn't always that moody, she'll warm up to you in no time."

Marth was quiet for a moment. "Hmmm...earlier you spoke some Japanese, but you claimed you don't understand it. How much do you know?"
Ripple shrugged. "Really, not very much. I know some vocabulary but I don't know how to piece sentences together. At all. Furthermore, you speak perfect English. Where did that come from?"
"Well..." Marth hesitated. "I was taught at a young age, so I've basically been bilingual my whole life."
Ripple nodded eagerly. "I've always wanted to be multilingual. That's why I became friends with Senpai.
I hoped I could use her as a stepping stone to learn Japanese. " Ripple laughed maliciously I really admire her because she's really good at everything, and she even was taking a Japanese class."

The warning bell rang.
Jean looked at Ike. "Looks like we have to part our separate ways then." She frowned, unhappy that she could not spend any more time with him.
Ike sighed. "Yep, can't wait to start sitting in a class, dying of boredom."
Jean giggled, even though it clearly wasn't that funny to either of them, she just occasionally giggled because she thought Ike was cute. They both knew this of course, so Jean blushed slightly.
"Uh, well, see you later, Ike!" she smiled at him and he smiled back. They them went to their different classes, despite what their young teenage hearts wanted.

Ripple died internally with relief as the bell rang. "Welp, gotta go, see ya later!" she said, much too quickly. "Nice meeting you and have a wonderful day." She immediately ran in the opposite direction, hoping that her classroom was that way.
Marth sighed. It seemed like Ripple still was avoiding him. But she was just so confusing he didn't want to make assumptions.

In class, Jean was bored, she hoped that the class wouldn't take as long as it usually does. She wanted to spend time with Ripple and make sure she was okay with staying at this prison of a school, wait, all schools are prison, my bad.

Ripple sat in class, extremely bored, wishing the day was over. She considered, for the first time, if perhaps she should stay at school instead of going home. She could just freeload off of Senpai's food for a while. She wasn't in the mood for going home. But she also wasn't in the mood for staying at school. "Ugh, my life is so haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard," Ripple whined out loud. Some of her classmates glanced at her, but Ripple ignored them. They were irrelevant, after all.
Marth fell asleep in class because he was just too smart for that dumb teacher.
